Boyertown rallies to keep state playoff hopes alive

(8) Boyertown 7, (13) Souderton 6 – The PAC champion Bears (18-6) plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh to keep their season alive in the District 1-6A playoffs.

Trailing 6-5 heading into their final at-bat, Mitchell Peers drew a lead-off walk and came around to score on Mike Hohlfeld’s booming RBI-triple to left-center. After a pair of strikeouts, pinch runner Mason Kurtz crossed with the game-winner on wild pitch.

Earlier, Boyertown had erased a 5-0 deficit with two runs in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth before the Indians regained the lead with a run in the top of the sixth.

Mike Martin was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Noah Kurtz picked up the mound win with two innings of hitless, scoreless relief for the Bears, who play at (3) Downingtown West Thursday (4 pm) for the fifth and final state playoff berth from the district.

D-West advanced to the fifth-place game with a 6-2 win over Ches-Mont rival Avon Grove Tuesday.
