Boys district golf: Spring-Ford's Luke Fazio advances to PIAA Tournament

LIMERICK – Spring-Ford junior and PAC individual champion Luke Fazio fired a 1-over par 73 Tuesday to finish 16th overall at 5-over at the District 1-AAA boys championships and earn a berth in the upcoming PIAA Championships.
Fazio (76-73-149) was the lone PAC golfer to advance at the two-day tournament at Turtle Creek GC, Spring-Ford's home course, with Owen J. Roberts senior Jared Berish falling one shot short of qualifying for the 18 PIAA berths after a 75-76-151. Spring-Ford senior Robbie McNelly was tied for 21st at 76-76-152 but 2 shots short of a PIAA bid.
Holy Ghost Prep senior Calen Sanderson earned the gold medal on the second playoff hole, besting Downingtown West sophomore Nick Gross after both finished at 4-under 140. Gross was the opening round leader with a 70 and matched that total in Day 2.
Sanderson’s 4-under 68 was tied for the low round of the day Tuesday with fourth-place finisher Dylan Kochis (75-68-143, -1), a senior at West Chester Henderson. Also in the top five were Upper Dublin senior Charlie Kerprich (3rd, 73-69-142, 2-under) and Bishop Shanahan junior Ben Saggers (5th, 73-72-145, +1).
The PIAA individual championships will be held at Heritage Hills in York Oct. 18-19. There will not be a Regional Tournament this year.
