Boys hoops: Johnson's double-double lifts Owen J. Roberts by Boyertown; Pope John Paul II, Methacton take early showdowns

Owen J. Roberts 74, Boyertown 70 – Chase Johnson posted a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds as the Wildcats overcame a sluggish start to record the PAC Liberty comeback victory Friday night.
After falling behind 23-14 after one quarter, OJR began its slow methodical climb, drawing within 55-50 by the end of the third quarter and closing things out with a 24-15 edge in the final frame. Jake Bolyn hit all 17 of his points in the second half with 5 treys and brother Brody Bolyn chipped in with 16 to help the Wildcats get into the win column.
For the Bears, who knocked down 13 treys but self-destructed with a 5-for-13 effort at the free throw line in their season opener, Tre Diguglielmo collected 19 points and 10 boards, David Leh had 16 points, Christian Renninger cashed 14 and Aarick Salata chipped in with 11.

Pope John Paul II 59, Phoenixville 45  - Justin Green made his season debut with a game-high 18 points to power the Golden Panthers to victory in an early season PAC Frontier showdown between a pair of unbeatens.
PJP went wire-to-wire for the win, bolting out to a 16-9 lead after one quarter and closing things out with a 30-23 advantage in the second half with Jaden Workman adding 12 points and Luke McCarthy posting 11.
Mike Memmo poured in a game-high 21 points and Zavier Mayo had 14 to key the Phantoms.

Methacton 53, Spring-Ford 48, OT - The Warriors pitched a 5-0 shutout in the extra session and rode a balanced scoring attack to edge the Rams in a matchup of traditional PAC Liberty Division powerhouses.
Brett Byrne finished with 12 points to lead Methacton, which also got 11 points from Cole Hargrove and 8 apiece from Matt Christian and Ryan Baldwin. In dropping to 1-1, Spring-Ford wasted a game-high 16 points from Zack Skrocki and 10 from Alex Lewis.
