District girls lax: Methacton advances behind Tornetta; Upper Perkiomen ousted

(20) Methacton 12, (13) Upper Dublin 6 – Sydney Tornetta poured in four goals as the Warriors rode a strong start to victory in the opening round of the District 1-3A playoffs Tuesday.
Julie Byrne, Mia Sheldon and Erin Hardenburg added two goals apiece and combined for six assists for Methacton (11-8), which opened up an 8-4 edge in the opening half and held on down the stretch to advance to a second-round match at Central Bucks West Thursday.
Rachel O’Toole collected 10 saves behind a strong defensive effort from the Warriors.

(1) Villa Maria Academy 16, (16) Upper Perkiomen 1 – Bella Carpenter scored off a Hope Flack assist in the second half for the lone Indians’ goal in their season-ending loss to the top-seeded Hurricanes in the opening round of the District 1-AA playoffs. Upper Perk finishes the season 7-12 overall.
