District girls lax wrap: Perkiomen Valley, Boyertown pull off first-round upsets

(22) Perkiomen Valley 11, (11) Central Bucks East 9 – The Vikings got four goals apiece from Paige Tyson and Anna Dawson and rode a fast start that produced a 6-1 first-half lead to the upset in the opening round of the District 1-3A playoffs Tuesday.
Perk Valley (11-8), hoping to duplicate last year’s magical postseason run to the state playoffs, will play at No. 6 Radnor (first-round bye) in the second round of districts Thursday (4 pm).

(24) Boyertown 14, (9) Pennsbury 9 – Amanda Diachynsky poured in six goals with one assist and Ashley Dierolf posted four goals and two helpers as the Bears pulled off the opening-round District 1-3A playoff upset.
Boyertown (9-9), which used an 8-3 second-half run to pull away from a 6-6 deadlock, moves on to face PAC rival and five-time defending league champion (8) Owen J. Roberts (first-round bye) in the second round Thursday (7 pm) in Bucktown.

(18) North Penn 11, (15) Methacton 10 – GraceSacchetti scored with 25 seconds left in regulation following a game-tying strike from Lily Szilagyi 19 second earlier to lead the Knights past the Warriors in the opening round of the District 1-3A playoffs.
The final 55 seconds ended the season for Methacton, which had grabbed a 10-9 lead with 59 seconds left on Jayme Weber’s goal at the end of a late 3-0 run.
Mia Sheldon posted four goals and one assist, Sydney Tornetta and Delaney Smith contributed two goals each and Mackenzie Clark recorded 13 saves to lead Methacton, which ends its season 11-9.

(20) Kennett 13, (13) Spring-Ford 11 – Liv Yeagle deposited four goals, Cassie Marte posted a hat trick with one assist and Jill Quigley recorded her 100th career assist in the Rams’ season-ending loss in the opening round of the District 1-3A playoffs.
For the Blue Demons (13-6), who move on to play at Ches-Mont League rival (4) Downingtown West Thursday in the second round, Claire Borman scored four goals, Lily Sandusky and Maddie Fowler registered hat tricks and Sydney Heimann was solid in goal with six saves.
Spring-Ford, which finishes 13-6 overall and advanced to the PAC championship game (a 17-5 loss to Owen J. Roberts) under first-year coach Kristi Holstein, was never able to overcome a 10-4 halftime deficit in the setback.
(6) Pottsgrove 20, (14) Jenkintown 6 – Sydney Wasdick and Emily Williams cashed in six goals each and Sydney Tornetta added four strikes to carry the Falcons(15-5) to victory in the opening round of the District 1-AA playoffs. The Grove moves on to face (3) New Hope-Solebury on the road Thursday (4 pm) in the second round.

PJP finishes 8-11 with the setback.
