District wrap: Clark, Smith help Pottsgrove get revenge; Phoenixville ousted (early edition)

(10) Pottsgrove 72, (7) Great Valley 69 – The Falcons (14-10) avenged last year’s 42-39 season-ending, opening-round District 1-5A playoff loss to Great Valley with the wire-to-wire triumph Thursday night in Malvern.
Manny Clark finished with 21 points and 3 assists while Khaliym Smith posted 20 points (8-11 FG) and 8 rebounds for the Grove, which moves on to face (2) Holy Ghost Prep on the road Saturday in the district quarterfinals with the winner earning a state playoff bid. The Firebirds took care of (15) Upper Merion 53-41 in their opener Thursday.
Pottsgrove, which also got strong showings from Justin Robinson (15 points, 5 rebounds) and Jimai Springfield (7 points, 6 assists, 5 steals), built leads of 18-14, 33-23 and 46-35 through the first three quarters, just enough cushion to survive the Patriots’ 34-point fourth quarter.

(6) Sun Valley 82, (11) Phoenixville 65 – The Phantoms ended their season at 11-12 with the first-round loss in the District 1-5A playoffs, victimized by a 31-20 run in the fourth quarter that blew open a tight (51-45) contest.
Mike Memmo hit for 14 points and Dylan Clark added 13 for the Phantoms, who knocked down 11 three-balls, but couldn't offset Vinny DeAngelo’s game-high 31 points for the Vanguards (16-7).
Sun Valley faces Ches-Mont League American Division rival Unionville in the district quarterfinals Saturday.
