Girls soccer: White, Armstrong lead Perkiomen Valley to first victory of season

ROYERSFORD – Perkiomen Valley broke into the win column when Courtney White – assisted by Frankie Barret – found the back of the net in the 72ndminute, providing a 1-0 Pioneer Athletic Conference girls soccer win over Spring-Ford Thursday.

Posting the shutout with a 12-save outing was Emily Armstrong, outdueling Spring-Ford keeper Jenna Griggs (6 saves). Armstrong’s free kick had started the play that produced the winning goal with 7:08 remaining.

PV improves to 1-2 in the Liberty, 1-3-1 overall while Spring-Ford fell to 0-4, 0-5.

Pope John Paul II 4, Pottsgrove 2 - Bridget Raugh snapped a 2-2 tie with a goal before Savannah Widdicombe converted a penalty kick for some insurance, leading the Golden Panthers (2-2 league and overall) to victory.

PJP also got goals from Caroline McLaughlin and Lauren Dao – countering strikes by the Falcons’ Lily Reed (Hannah Steffenino assist) and Jaid Mark (Darby Wood assist).

Pottsgrove is now 0-1 in the Freedom, 1-1 overall.

Upper Perkiomen 5, Pottstown 0 – The Indians posted the PAC-10 shutout behind Kayla Smith’s two goal-two assist burst.

Kalyn Kates, Emily Leight and Raychel Bair also found the net for Upper Perk, with Brooke Knisely and Bair adding assists. Trojans keeper Adriana Douglass registered 12 saves to key Pottstown (0-3 Freedom, 0-4).

The Tribe climbed over the .500 mark in the Freedom at 2-1 and is now 2-3-1 overall.
