Girls soccer wrap: Benner's hat trick carries Phoenixville past Upper Perk

PHOENIXVILLE – Lauren Benner collected a hat trick to lead Phoenixville to a 4-1 Pioneer Athletic Conference Freedom Division girls soccer victory over Upper Perkiomen Thursday.

Kayla Smith had given the Indians a 1-0 lead with an unassisted strike in the 28thminute, but the Phantoms (2-0) drew even on an own goal. Benner then found the back of the net three times within a 28-minute span to seal the deal for Phoenixville.

The loss drops Upper Perk to 0-1 in the league, 0-1-1 overall.

Owen J. Roberts 1, Perkiomen Valley 0 – Holly Sullivan scored midway through the second half on Meghan Antrim’s assist to help the Wildcats take the PAC-10 Liberty Division opener for both schools.

Emily Armstrong was strong in net for the Vikings with eight saves. The loss drops PV to 0-1-1 overall. OJR (1-0 overall) held a 14-7 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in corners.

Methacton 2, Spring-Ford 1 – Jen Nestor snapped a 1-1 tie in the first half with a goal to lead the Warriors in the PAC-10 Liberty opener for both schools. Amanda Kulp had given Methacton (1-1-1) the early lead before Megan Giannopoulos countered with a goal for the Rams (0-2 overall).
