Girls soccer wrap: Glatthorn's goal lifts Methacton past Perkiomen Valley


GRATERFORD – Kelly Glatthorn scored on an assist from Amanda Broderick late in the first half to propel Methacton to a 2-1 Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division girls soccer victory over Perkiomen Valley Tuesday.

Glatthorn’s goal snapped a 1-1 tie and came less than a minute after Kelly Balzaereit – assisted by Hayley Jampo – got PV even with a goal at the 33:30 mark.

Earlier, the Warriors had drawn first blood on Kyra Dubost’s unassisted tally 9:16 into the first half. Methacton, which got 6 saves from Alyssa Ardman, is now 2-0 in the league, 2-1-1 overall.

The winless Vikings (0-2 league, 0-3-1 overall), who got five saves in net from Emily Armstrong, won the statistical battle, outshooting the Warriors 16-8 and posting a 7-4 edge in corners.

Owen J. Roberts 5, Spring-Ford 0 – The defending PAC-10 champion Wildcats exploded for four goals in the second half en route to their second PAC-10 Liberty triumph in as many tries.

Leading the way for OJR (2-2 overall) were Meghan Antrim (3 goals), Juliana Provini (2 goals, assist) and keeper Cassie Popp (6 saves). Emily Morgan and Maddy Cantello added assists for the Wildcats.

The loss drops the Rams to 0-3, 0-5.

Upper Perkiomen 2, Pope John Paul II 1 – Lauren Bonar and Raychel Bair collected goals while Emily Leight came up with a pair of assists to help the Indians improve to 1-1 in the Freedom Division, 1-3-1 overall with their first victory.

Trailing 2-0 midway through the second half, PJP got on the board when Lauren Dao scored – the only tally allowed by UP keeper Maggie Ortlip (7 saves). Devon Player finished with 4 saves for the Golden Panthers (1-2 league and overall).

Pottsgrove 2, Interboro 0 – The Falcons posted the non-league win behind goals from Molly Choido (assisted by Kacy Carrroll) and Tori Coyle. Pottsgrove keeper Allie Neel came up with 8 saves for the shutout.
