Girls tennis: Top seeds Mejia and Burke hold serve, earn PAC doubles championship

GRATERFORD – Top-seeded Isabela Mejia and Riley Burke of Spring-Ford captured the PAC girls tennis doubles championship Saturday at Perkiomen Valley with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over the No. 2 seeds Nadja Townsend and Kay Mahon of Perkiomen Valley.
Mejia/Burke reached the championship match by taking out Methacton’s unseeded team of Hannah Kim and Katie Chan 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals while Townsend/Mahon advanced with a 6-4, 6-2 conquest of Methacton’s Karen Li and Amanda Wang, the event’s No. 3 overall seed.
Li/Wang came back to edge their Warriors teammates Kim and Chan for third place, prevailing 3-6, 6-1, (11-9).
The first five finishers – including Pope John Paul II’s fifth-place team of Veronica Marinari and Maggie Christianson (seeded fourth overall), all qualified for the District 1 Doubles Championship beginning next Friday, Oct. 18, at the Legacy Tennis Center.
