Girls volleyball: Boyertown, Pope John Paul II, Upper Merion open with sweeps

Boyertown 3, Perkiomen Valley 0 – The Bears posted a shutout in both teams PAC and season opener Friday, winning by scores of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-16 behind Emily Wolfe (12 kills, 3 blocks, 2 digs), Adrianna Derstine (9 kills, block, 5 digs) and Emma Ludwig (3 kills, 2 blocks, 4 digs, 21 assists).
 
Pope John Paul II 3, Pottsgrove 0 - Lauren Philips (6 kills), Haley Spotts (6 kills), Hanna Tulli (7 kills) and Sarah Ward (3 kills) triggered the offense as the Golden Panthers opened their season with the 25-5, 25-16, 25-7 PAC romp Friday. Also for PJP, Chelsea Harvey finished with 14 assists and Tea Pasquale contributed 10 digs and 11 aces.
 
Upper Merion 3, Phoenixville 0 – The Phantoms suffered the 25-7, 25-11 and 25-13 loss in their season and PAC opener despite strong showings from Alexa Grammerstorf (1 ace, 3 kills, 2 digs), Avery Stackhouse (3 kills, 6 digs) and LeiLu Campbell (14 digs).
 
Methacton splits
The Warriors topped Penncrest 3-1 (28-26, 25-18, 23-25, 25-8) to earn a split in their season-opening tri-match as Sydney Zerbe (17 kills, 20 digs), Meghan Haftl (30 assists, 2 aces, 5 digs), Melinda Eglinton (7 kills, 2 aces, 10 digs), Elly Brunt (15 digs), Emma Ginther (4 aces, 7 digs) and Nya Cherry (2 aces, 8 digs) led the way.
In their 3-2 loss (25-23, 19-25, 25-17, 11-25, 11-15) to the host Patriots, Methacton was led by Zerbe (10 kills, 12 digs), Haftl (38 assists, 5 aces, 11 digs), Eglinton (15 kills, 9 digs), Brunt (11 digs, 4 aces), Ginther (8 digs, 2 aces) and Alli Hazlett (6 kills, 5 blocks).
