Gooch's walk-off double helps Upper Perkiomen secure third place in District 1-5A

(4) Upper Perkiomen 6, (6) Upper Merion 5 – Kylene Gooch delivered a walk-off RBI-double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Indians to victory in the District 1-5A third-place game Friday.

In a matchup of PAC Frontier rivals that was rained out the previous three days, Upper Perk (17-7) overcame an early 4-0 deficit to secure the win, setting up Gooch's heroics with a two-run double by Dani Freer in the fourth inning that locked things up a 5.

Freer and Sierra Fretz (double) drove in two runs apiece for the Indians, who also got two hits from Alexa Banner (two runs) and Gooch in support of winning pitcher Lily Dibble.

For the Vikings, Samme Deskiewicz was 3-4 with two RBI, Valentina Marino was 2-4 with a double and losing pitcher Olivia Barr and Kayla Warren chipped in with RBI.

Both teams will play in the opening round of the state tournament Monday, Upper Perk drawing District 2 champion Pittston Area and Upper Merion facing District 3 champion Twin Valley at time and sites to be determined.
