Kinetic PT Athlete of the Week: Noel Fresa (Upper Perkiomen)

Athlete: Noel Fresa
School: Upper Perkiomen
Sport: Girls swimming
The week that was: Fresa, a versatile junior and two-time state medalist, earned wins in the 500 free (5:13.44) and 100 backstroke (1:01.87) to lead the Indians past Springfield (Montco) 89-81 during Thursday’s dual meet.
Fresa’s clocking in the 500 free established a new school record at Upper Perk, snapping the old mark posted by Shayna Longacre in 2003 (5:15.26) by more than two seconds.
"It was a goal of mine at the beginning of the season to try and break the team record in the 500 free,” said Noel. “I asked Coach K if he could put me in this event at the Springfield meet.  I gave it my best shot and it worked out where I was able to."
Noel is coming off a mega-successful sophomore season that produced a fifth-place finish in the 100 free (52.05) and a sixth in the 50 free (24.14) at the PIAA Class 2A girls championships.
Her 2017-18 postseason run also included a gold (24.20 in 50 free) and silver (52.99 in 100 free) at last year’s District 1-2A championship meet.
“Noel has had an outstanding three seasons with the Upper Perk High School swim team,” said UP coach Brien Kalnoski. “She continues to set the bar higher each year for herself.”
Fresa is literally rewriting the swimming record books at Upper Perk, also establishing the team record in the 100 backstroke (1:00.14), pool (24.77) and team (24.10) records in the 50 free, team record in the 100 free (51.86) and part of the team record in the 400 free relay (3:41.51), a mark that had stood for 20 years.
