Norristown's Ryan brothers, Spring-Ford's Kalbach qualify for states

FLEETWOOD – Norristown brothers Josh Ryan and Caleb Ryan and Spring-Ford senior Alex Kalbach advanced to the PIAA-Class 3A boys golf championship with strong showings at the Eastern Regional Monday at Golden Oaks GC.

Josh Ryan, a sophomore and the PAC individual champion, led the trio with an even-par 72 in the rainy, wet conditions to finish tied for fifth.

Caleb Ryan, a senior, was one shot back of his brother with a one-over 73 for a share of eighth place. Coming in just above the cut line and in a tie for 20th was Kalbach, whose 5-over round of 77 included two birdies and five bogeys.

Failing to make the cut were PAC entries Luke Watson of Spring-Ford (79) and Ryan Glenn of Owen J. Roberts (85).

Central York’s Carson Bacha was the regional medalist with a 3-under round of 69 while Matt Fleming of Council Rock South, CB East’s Patrick Sheehan and Carlisle’s John Peters all shared second place with one-under 71s.

The PIAA championships begin next Monday at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.
