PAC-10 roundup: PJP upends Spring-Ford in girls volleyball

UPPER PROVIDENCE  - Pope John Paul II opened its girls volleyball campaign with a 3-1 victory over visiting Spring-Ford Tuesday evening in a non-league matchup of neighborhood rivals.

Geena Bevenour accumulated 29 assists and 15 digs for the Golden Panthers, who bracketed victories of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-18 around a narrow second-game loss (25-27) to take the hotly-contested match.

Other key contributors for PJP were Kelly Guarino (9 aces, 7 kills, 13 digs), Annie Kolcun (15 digs), Carly Giangiulio (9 kills) and Nicole Dorman (6 kills).

Spring-Ford, which slipped to 1-1 on the season, was led by Kirsten Overton (9 kills), Catherine Burger (15 assists), Christine Irrera (20 digs) and Josie Swenson (4 kills). The Rams’ lone win in Game 2 was fueled by two straight points from Kendall Janus.
