Perkiomen Valley falls short of top-seeded Garnet Valley in district semifinals

(1) Garnet Valley 10, (12) Perkiomen Valley 8 – The upstart Vikings were unable to sustain a fast start in their District 1-AAA semifinal loss to the top-seeded Jaguars Tuesday.

Perk Valley (15-7), which has already locked up a state playoff berth, bolted out to a 3-0 lead in the first 6:17 of the contest behind goals from Caitlin Leap, Riley McGettigan and Paige Tyson before Garnet Valley found its footing.

“I think Garnet Valley started out a little slow and then turned it on a little bit,” said Perkiomen Valley coach Lisa Clark in the Delaware County Times.  “We were having trouble stopping their cutters. They’re a high-powered team and once they started going they were tough to stop.”

After building a 5-4 lead, the Jaguars used a 4-1 run to seize control at 9-5 with 5:13 left.
Despite three late goals from Tyson (four goals, assist), Perk Valley was unable to make up the difference and will now face (3) Unionville for third-place in the district Thursday (4 pm).
