READING – Perkiomen Valley was unable to sustain another dazzling performance in absorbing a season-ending 62-52 loss to Reading High Thursday night in the second round of the PIAA Class 6A playoffs Thursday night at Santander Arena.

The Pioneer Athletic Conference champion Vikings silenced the heavily-partisan Reading crowd by racing out to a 30-25 halftime advantage and still led by 7 early in the fourth quarter before the powerful Red Knights (27-3) unleashed a jaw-dropping 16-0 run to seize control.

PV senior Justin Jaworski (8-13 FG, 3-6 3PT FG), who according to several sources received a Division I offer from American University earlier in the week, finished with a game-high 21 points and collected 6 rebounds  for the Vikings (23-7), coming off a 57-55 first-round upset of two-time state and District 12 champion Roman Catholic in the opening round Saturday.

Hogan Millheim (6-8 FG, 4-4 FT, 16 points, 4 rebounds) and Sean Owens (9 points, 2 assists) also closed out their high school careers with strong efforts.

Perk Valley shot 57 percent (20-35) from the floor, 50 percent from beyond (6-12) and actually held a 24-19 rebounding advantage, but those statistical advantages evaporated down the stretch as Reading pulled away behind the combined 17 fourth-quarter points ofTyrone Nesby (20 points) and Miami (Fla.) recruit Lonnie Walker IV (18 points, 5 rebounds).

The Knights, the No. 3 seed from District 3, move on to the state quarterfinals against the winner of Friday night’s Plymouth Whitemarsh-Pocono Mountain West contest at a time and place to be determined.
