Smith, Webb, Boalton help Boyertown take district opener

(19) Boyertown 59, (14) CB West 56 – Julia Smith knocked down 20 points on four triples, Kylie Webb scored 17 and Tori Boalton chipped in with 14 points and stellar defense on the Bucks’ Maddie Burke to lift the defending state champion Bears to victory in the opening round of the District 1-6A girls basketball Friday night.

Trailing 27-22 at the half, Boyertown (11-13) used a 37-29 run to gain the decision. Smith finished with 8 rebounds while Webb had 7 boards for the Bears, who face longtime nemesis and PAC champion (3) Spring-Ford on the road Wednesday (7 pm).

Boyertown shot 26-36 from the stripe to survive a deluge of 10 three-balls from the Bucks.
