DOUGLASS TWP. – Perkiomen Valley moved one step closer to clinching a Pioneer Athletic Conference Final Four softball berth by holding off Boyertown, 5-4, Thursday night at Pine Forge.

Tori Marcavage went the distance for the mound win, scattering five hits and striking out nine for PV, which hosts Pope John Paul II in a doubleheader Friday (3:30). Methacton (9-7), Pottsgrove (9-7) and PJP (8-7) remain one game behind PV in the loss column for the last playoff spot.

There were some anxious moments for the Vikings (10-6) when Boyertown put together a four-run uprising in the bottom of the seventh inning that featured RBI-singles from Darby Girton and Beth Anne Kircher. But Marcavage got the final out, retiring the dangerous Lizzie Kish on a sharp grounder to Brittany Shoemaker at short.

Harley Pascavage’s two-run single in the sixth had given PV a 5-0 lead. Marcavage (2-3, RBI-triple in first) and Shoemaker (sacrifice fly) also drove in runs for the Vikings.

Boyertown, which had already clinched a Final Four spot, finished the PAC-10 regular season at 12-6.
