Spring-Ford finishes 3rd in district behind Peck, Ryan

(1) Spring-Ford 1, (3) Pennsbury 0 – Bri Peck fired a four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and Jules Ryan snapped a scoreless tie with an RBI-double in the fourth inning to carry the Rams to victory in the District 1-6A third-place game Friday at Ram Park.

Coming off its first loss of the season to eventual district champion Downingtown West in the semifinals Tuesday, Spring-Ford (24-1) rebounded behind its sophomore ace. Named the PA Gatorade Player of the Year, before the start Friday Peck walked just one while outdueling Pennsbury’s Ainsley McClure. McClure was equally masterful with her two-hitter, the lone damage Ryan’s double that plated Noelle Reid, who had singled to begin the rally.

The Falcons (18-4) had runners on second and third with two outs in the seventh after singles by Caitlyn Martell and Liz Pingor, but Peck closed the door with her 10th punchout.

Spring-Ford will now face District 12 champion St. Hubert’s in the opening round of the PIAA Class 3A playoffs Monday at a time and site to determined. In the opening round of states in 2017, the Rams drilled St. Hubert’s 13-1.
