Woodward, Duda, Timko trigger Methacton triumph

(1-7) Methacton 93, (12-2) Boys Latin 71 – The two-time PAC champion Warriors ruled the paint and the perimeter in their second round PIAA Class 6A playoff victory Tuesday night at Harriton.
Jeff Woodward was a beast on the interior with 27 points, 25 rebounds and 6 blocks while David Duda (26 points, 6 treys) and Erik Timko (23 points, 3 treys) were lights out from beyond the arc to help Methacton advance to the state quarterfinals Saturday against Pennridge at a time and place to be determined.
After bolting out to a 23-14 first-quarter lead, the Warriors (24-7) were suddenly locked at 50 early in the second half before reestablishing control with a 17-4 run at the end of the third quarter to go up 67-54. A 26-17 edge in the fourth period for the locals closed things out.
The trip to the Elite Eight is the first in program history for Methacton, which also got 6 points and 7 assists from Brett Eberly. Pennridge, which is also making its first state quarterfinal appearance, advanced with a 55-51 win over District 1 champion Abington Wednesday, finally busting the Ghosts after three previous losses this season.
